🤩 FREE 3-day event to help you implement SOR 🎉

Hey Reader,

You know I’m passionate about helping educators learn how to incorporate the science of reading into their daily lessons.

As a former balanced literacy teacher, learning about how our students really learn to read was shocking and upsetting. I had lots of changes to make. I was overwhelmed and upset.

That’s why I’m so excited to share something that will help reading educators like you learn and implement important aspects of the science of reading into your lessons:

The Back to School SOR Summit is a free 3-day event that will help elementary reading teachers incorporate the science of reading for the new school year and become more confident and competent in teaching reading effectively.

You can get all the details about Back to School SOR Summit over here, but as a quick overview:

  • Back to School SOR Summit will run from July 29-31
  • Each day will be packed with amazing speakers who are ready to help you master the science of reading
  • We’ve got a pop-up Facebook group where you can connect with other literacy educators, ask the speakers questions, win prizes, and more!
  • The summit is absolutely free to attend, but you can choose to grab the All-Access Pass for bonus resources and an upgraded event experience.

Hi Reader, The long U sound can be tricky because it has two different pronunciations—/ū/ (as in music) and /ü/ (as in rule). A great way to help students hear the difference is to sort words into two categories. Write words like cube, unicorn, and use in one column, and words like blue, moon, and truth in another. Then, have students say each word out loud and listen for the two distinct sounds. This simple sort builds awareness and helps them recognize patterns in spelling! Need a visual...

Wouldn’t it be great if they had a simple, go-to reference to help them along the way? These phonics anchor charts give K-2 students clear, visual support for tricky phonics rules, helping them decode and spell with confidence. Perfect for classroom displays, phonics notebooks, and small group lessons! No prep—just print and use! Here is everything included in this...

Hi Reader, I received a few questions about why -nk was split into 2 sounds on my worksheets when -ng is not. The simple answer is that -nk is 2 sounds and -ng is 1 sound. Notice the /ng/ sound is not the same as the /n/ in seen and sin. Also notice that you don't pronounce the G in /ng/ (you don't hear the same...
